SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
IMPORTANT - READ CAREFULLY BEFORE BEGINNING INSTALLATION
Read this installation manual completely prior to installation. Installation
should be performed by a professional installer. Required welding should be
performed by a qualified welder. Should electricity be required, use a certified
electrician only. Any device that requires 120 Volts AC should be U.L. approved.
Review with the owner all safety concerns including:
Do not operate the gate unless area around gate is in full view. Do not allow
children or adults to "ride" on gate during operation. Do not allow children to
play in the gate area. Periodically test the obstruction sensitivity to assure
safe and proper operation. Do not test sensitivity by standing between the gate
and the hinge or stop post Do not allow children to play with the gate controls.
The "CAUTION AUTOMATIC GATE" sign should be clearly visible from both sides of
the gate. Always insure that the gate has closed securely before leaving area.
Arrange with local fire and law enforcement for emergency access.
Recommend safety devices such as loop detectors, edge switches, and beam
detectors when applicable. Install control devices such as keypads far enough
away (5 feet or further) from any moving parts of the operator and gate to
prevent possible injury. Always disconnect the battery or power source when
making adjustments or repairs to any part of the gate or operator. All rollers
should be covered to prevent injury.

WARNING SIGN INSTALLATION
Two warning signs are provided with each Apollo Slide Gate Operator. The warning
signs are provided in an effort to alert persons of any potential hazard that
exists with the operation of the slide gate. These warning signs should help
people to avoid any hazards that may otherwise be encountered with the operation
of the slide gate.
1. The warning signs should be permanently installed on both sides of the gate
so that people on either side of the gate can be alerted to any hazard
associated with gate operation.
2. Warning sign installation may require hardware that is not provided with the
Apollo Gate Operator.
Provided warning sign:

APPLICATIONS
The Apollo Model 7300 Slide Gate Operator is designed to handle a slide gate up
to 30 feet in total length (accommodates a 25 foot drive). A professional fence
or gate dealer is recommended to assure proper installation. Apollo Gate
Operators are available only through qualified dealers with an outstanding
reputation in the fence and gate industry. These dealers will be able to
recommend the proper equipment for particular applications. Apollo Gate
Operators are 12 Volt DC (Direct Current) powered. A 12 Volt marine type battery
is recommended. There are several advantages with 12 Volt DC systems:
Low voltage virtually eliminates risk of electrical shock. Battery powered
operators provide up to 300 operations in the event of power outages. The
battery may be recharged either with a solar panel or a battery charger
depending on the number of cycles in use. If the unit has more than one
accessory or runs more than 100 cycles a day, it is recommended that an AC
battery charger be installed.
Note: A licensed electrician will be required for proper electrical hookup of
110 Volt power source for the AC charger.

PRE-INSTALLATION CHECKLIST
The operator should be appropriate for the type of application, i.e. Class or IV
The gate needs to be within the weight and length specifications for the
operator.
This operator is designed for vehicular traffic through slide gates only.
Pedestrian traffic should be provided for with a separate gate. This precaution
will reduce the chance of injury.
The location of the gate should provide for proper clearance of the gate and any
nearby structure. This precaution will reduce the chance of injury caused by
entrapment as indicated on the caution signs provided.
The gate must not be damaged and it must be working properly prior to the
installation of the gate operator. Do not continue to use gate operator if the
gate becomes damaged.
The control devices should be located far enough off the roadway so that
vehicles will have enough room to operate them. This prevents vehicles from
coming into contact with the gate mechanism while it is operating.
Electricity needs to be available when the number of cycles desired, requires a
secondary power source.
Both warning signs need to be installed on either side of the gate so that
people can be alerted to any hazard associated with gate operation.

PAD INSTALLATION
|
 |
| The required depth of the pad will vary from site to site,
Normally, the pad should be at least 4" above the surface and 18" below
(Figure A & B). |
 |
| |
 |
In harder soil or rock, pilings may be preferred (Figure C).
|
 |
Conduit requirements should be considered in
the planning stage, If electrical power is required, a separate conduit
should be installed for electrical only. A certified electrician should be
consulted for the proper conduit material (Figure D & E).
|
 |
| Note Allow the concrete to cure as per the
directions on the bag. The mounting holes for the operator should be drilled
after the concrete has cured. |
|
 |
OPERATOR
INSTALLATION
|
| Four 1/2" x 2" anchor bolts (not supplied) are recommended
to mount the chassis. The holes should normally be drilled with a 112"
concrete drill bit. Apollo recommends that you consult the bolt manufacturer
inter specifications for installation of anchor bolts. |
 |
STEP 1. Set the operator on the pad as
shown. Align the sprockets 3 to 5 inches from the inside surface of the
gate.
STEP 2. Mark the four mounting holes on the pad.
STEP 3. Remove the operator and drill the holes according to the
anchor bolt manufacturers instructions.
STEP 4. Remove loose debris from drilled holes, position the operator
and fasten it to the pad.
Optional: Anchor bolts may be installed prior to operator placement.
|
 |
| Note Operator should be mounted parallel
to gate. Excessive noise and ware may occur if the operator is not parallel
to the gate. |
|
 |
CHAIN BRACKET
INSTALLATION
STEP 1. Assemble chain bracket with 5/16" U-bolt & hardware to each
end of the gate as shown. Do not tighten at this time.
|
|
 |
STEP 2. Align the left cha i n bracket
slot with the top teeth of the idler sprocket,
TIP: If welding equipment is available, tack weld the chain bracket
to the gate on each end to prevent it from turning when the chain is to be
tightened |
|
 |
STEP 3. Align the right chain bracket
slot with the bottom teeth of the main sprocket.
STEP 4. Tighten all hardware |
|
 |
CHAIN & CHAIN BOLT
INSTALLATION
STEP 1. Connect chain bolt to the chain bracket as per Figure A & B
on both ends of the gate.
|
 |

STEP 2. Attach the chain to one of the
chain bolts using the master chain link provided.
STEP 3. Route chain through gate operator as shown below.
STEP 4. Release Quick Release by pulling and turning 1/4 turn as
shown on page 13.
STEP 5. Connect the other end of the chain to the other chain bolt
using the master chain link provided.
STEP 6. Adjust the chain bolts to tighten the chain to a suitable
tension. Allow no more than 1 inch of sag to 10 feet of gate travel.
Note: A chain breaking tool may be required to reduce the chain to
the proper length.
|
 |
| VERY IMPORTANT Do not over-tighten the
tension in the chain as this will came premature chain wear and operator may
move slowly if chain is over-tightened. |
|

MANUAL /
EMERGENCY GATE OPERATION
There me two power sources available for use with the 7300 series slide gate
operator:
Primary: 12 Volt Battery
Secondary: Self regulating AC Charger
Apollo Gate Operators are equipped with manual / emergency release systems
that ensure the safe and reliable operation of all 7300 series slide gate
operators in the event of power loss or unlikely equipment failure. When
manually operating the slide gate always make sure that the primary power
source and my secondary back-up power source are disconnected.
Two manual / emergency release systems are available options with the 7300
series:
1. FAIL-SAFE
This option is preferred where emergency access through the gated area is
not to be hindered. This option allows the gate can be manually operated
without the use of special tools or keys. In the event of a power outage the
gate is free to move. Always make sure that the primary power source (12V
Battery) is disconnected before attempting to manually operate the slide
gate.
Note: (brake not shipped on Fail-Safe units) This option may be operated
using a solar panel at low cycle rates. Please consult Apollo customer
service for power requirements.
11. FAIL-SECURE
This option locks the gate in its position when the primary power to the
unit is lost. In order to disengage the locking mechanism, lift off cover,
then pull and turn the quick release 1/4 turn (as shown on page 13). The
gate can now be manually operated.
Note: This option requires a 10 map battery charger to maintain battery
voltage. |
